Gel Card!

Oh my goodness!  I'm so excited!  I have created a Gel Card!

Over at Tiddly Inks they are having a Gel Card Challenge .... way too hard I thought to myself yesterday .... but maybe I'll try it and see what happens.  So off to the supermarket to purchase some hair gel .... first time ever!

First I coloured in Tiddly Inks gorgeous mermaid!  I love this image and have used her in another challenge.  Last time I coloured her tail in orange but this time I chose ...... yep you guessed it my favourite colour purple!

I spent ages colouring her ... so here is a picture.......
I used some crystal ice Icestickles on her tail and clothes so they sparkled.  And then I had to work out how to make a gel card!  Well there is a great tutorial that is linked to the Tiddly Inks website ... and I gave that a go but wasn't real happy with the end result ... so I made up my own idea (probably been done before .. and if I had searched the internet I probably would have found a tutorial but remember I'm working with super slow internet that just won't allow it)

So the following pictures will probably explain it all.  The biggest problem I had was finding a zip lock bag the right size.  I eventually found one and popped some gel in it ... probably a small tablespoon full and then added some glitter.  And of course I got it all over my hands but it does smell quite pleasant :)

So in the above picture I have stuck together my two shaped coloured cards and then attached the bag of gel.  I used sticky tape to attach the bag and quite a lot as it's suprisingly heavy.
In this picture you can see that I have attached the coloured image to the back of the gel card.  I was going to attch it to the inside of my card and leave a window but I found it a little flimsy ... may have to work on my design a bit before I attempt it that way.

And here is the finished card.  I attached this lovely little metal fish that I got from Spotlight in the bead department and popped some of those Kaisercraft clear bubble things on the ribbon.
I was going to emboss the front of the card with the cuttlebug but I thought with the lovely shimmery blue paper it would look better smooth.
And of course a close up of the gel window ... the window is nice and squishy to move around.

I would like to enter this card in the following challenges:-
Tiddly Inks Challenge #60 Gel Card
Crafting For All Seasons Challenge #6 Beach/Ocean
Try It On Tuesday Card Week From The Beach

There are so many challenges that this card would be suited to ... but I do prefer to create a card for each challenge.  Its not really about winning (although it would be awesome!) but about getting motivated and learning new skills ... and I'm certainly doing that.

Thanks for checking out my card :)
Enjoy your craft ....

  13. Superb job. Your Tiddly is awesome in purple and all sparkled up. And the fish adornment is adorable. I didn't follow the provided tutorial either and had a heck of a time getting the backing to stick to the front of the card. Looks like you had better luck with your method then I did.
